The Pouakai
This is my information report on the Pouakai.
The Pouakai was an eagle, they were the biggest eagle in the world.
The females weigh 17.8kg and the males weigh 12.3kg. Which means that females are bigger than males.
Their wings were up to 3 metres wide. They predicted that the Pouakai colours were black and white. They ate mainly Moa but also small children and small birds. They live in the drier eastern parts of the South Island.
There were many different names for the Poukai one was the Hikioi from the maori meaning the old glutton. Scientists called it Harpagornis moorei. Another name was the Haasts eagle. Pakeha did not name it.
So the Pouakai it was one of the most feared birds in the world!
